Managing absence from 'day one'
A key element in managing absence effectively is accurate
measurement and monitoring. But fewer than half of employers
monitor the cost of absence, according to the CIPD's
2010 Absence Survey.
For businesses that don't know or are unsure of their absence
rate, our 'day one' absence service provides a consistent and
accurate process for recording it.
Our system produces a wealth of management information which can
pinpoint absence trends for the company as a whole, or down to
departmental and divisional levels.
The process
Absent employees are required to contact our 24 hour absence and
wellbeing centre, where our team of health coaches log details of
the employee's absence, offer support and capture expected return
to work details.

Our system:
- Captures absence data, identifies trends and issues
- Sends immediate notification of absences to line managers, HR
and other agreed stakeholders
- Supports and guides both the employee and line manager through
the return to work interview process
- Activates alerts when absences hit agreed 'trigger
points'.
Trigger points indicate when an absence needs to be
investigated, allowing for early intervention. These triggers
are defined by each organisation, but commonly include certain
reasons for absence, such as stress or musculoskeletal. They can
also be a certain length of absence, or occurrences of absence.
Early intervention
Early intervention is a key factor in effective absence
management. By recording data we can make sure appropriate cases
are highlighted to HR at the earliest opportunity. This allows you
to offer early support for employees, and minimises the risk of a
longer term absence developing.
Integrated services
Counselling or employee assistance programme
(EAP)
If an employee's absence is related to issues which are causing
them emotional distress, we can integrate a counselling service or
employee
assistance programme into the recording process. This
process will make sure employees get support and information
services to help them before longer term problems have a chance to
develop.
