Absence referrals

Review and assessment

If a health concern is causing an employee to be absent or impacting on their performance at work, it's important to refer them to the relevant health and wellbeing services early on.

When a trigger point indicates that an absence needs to be investigated, our team of case managers complete a detailed telephone assessment with the employee and line manager or HR contact.

We use the biopsychosocial model, identifying previous and current medical history and any psychological or social factors affecting their ability to work.

We then formulate a return to work or case resolution plan and include feedback and recommendations for the employer and employee.

The feedback:

  • Sets goals and timescales to resolve the absence
  • Is written in plain English without confusing medical jargon
  • Is legally compliant
  • Advises your organisation on the barriers stopping an employee from returning to work
  • Advises your organisation on reasonable adjustments which may be required to support a return to work.

Active case management

Not all cases can be resolved after the initial assessment. We can continue to manage it until it is, and guide the employee through treatment if necessary.

During each assessment, the case manager will review previous goals and set new goals in line with what your organisation can accommodate. We provide feedback reports to you after each assessment.

Where appropriate, we integrate with your existing services such as specialist treatment, health benefits, and in-house occupational health.

Cut the rate and length of absences.  Integrating an employee assistance programme will offer early support to staff, before longer term problems develop.
